NGU’s digital media center gets a well deserved remodel

As Print Media majors return to Tigerville for the spring semester at North Greenville University, they are awaited by a newly renovated digital media center. The digital media center is located in the Mass Communication department, behind the student center. The room is a very important resource for the student media organizations.
The digital media center is clean, modern and fully equipped with Macintosh desktop computers. The two pieces of wall art each contain a hidden NGU logo. See if you can find them next time you are in the Mass Communication department.
The space received a number of cosmetic upgrades, including energy efficient LED lighting to brighten the space, faux brick veneer behind the new televisions and a fresh coat of paint to sharpen up the overall appearance of the room.
Heidi Campbell, the chair of the Department of Mass Communication, said, “Our construction and maintenance departments came in and did demolition, wall repair and rebuilt the desks. They also painted and redid the lighting.”
The upgrades give the impression of brightness and openness, something that the relatively small space definitely needed.
Students have access to iMac computers where they can write, edit, and publish news stories.
The technology was updated as well.
“IT came in and rewired all the computer access points, moved printer access and pulled cable for the TV monitors in the room,” Campbell said.
“It was a labor of love as the workers came in to complete every phase. They had such a great attitude and a sweet servant spirit as they worked,” she added.
The department was able to do the renovation efficiently because NGU has the resources and people to complete the job.
Although the previous digital media center was functional, it was outdated. The faculty decided that changes must be made in order to create a more innovative space for students to work.
“I wanted our students involved in The Vision to have a space that was inspiring for them as they wrote and created for the online news and printed magazine,” Campbell said.
“[The faculty] wanted the room to feel fresh and updated and reflective of our digital media environment,” she added.
The new space reflects professionalism, progressive design and organization. This digital media center is now ready for many more years of use. Come by and check it out.
