November is a month that brings much excitement. Between Thanksgiving, a break from school, and Christmas right around the corner, there is much to love about the month. As if you need more reasons to love November, here are 10 days that have their own special celebrations.

1. National Pickle Day, Nov. 14

Who would have thought that the pickle was first devoured as far back as 2030 B.C.?  Caesar even thought it gave his troops strength. I like to think pickles give me strength. Either way since 2001, National Pickle Day has been celebrated. Whether it’s dill or brined, enjoy a pickle on National Pickle Day.

2. National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day, Nov. 15

This day was created in preparation for the grand meals coming up soon. With family coming in and places needed to stuff all the food, what better time to clean out the ol’ ice box? The day was created in 1999 by Whirlpool Home Appliances. As a result, their phones rang off the hook on suggestions on how to properly clean their space.

3. National Fast Food Day, Nov. 16

The last thing I need is a day to celebrate fast food. At least we all have an excuse to indulge in that cheap food from a window. Since 1951, the words “fast food” have been used to describe those quick, tasty meals. Join the fun on Nov. 16 and grab yourself a bite in celebration of this holiday.

4. National Take a Hike Day, Nov. 17

Ever use the saying “take a hike” to someone that you wish would go away?  Well whether that’s the case or not, Nov. 17 is the perfect day to suggest or do such a thing. For all those outdoorsy people, this day is a chance to escape and simply take a hike. The best part is, you have an excuse because it’s National Take A Hike Day.

5. National Carbonated Beverage With Caffeine Day, Nov. 19

Since we had fast food a few days ago, we might as well grab a nice soda right? Since the incorporation of carbonation in 1767, drinks have never been the same. November 19 is the day to celebrate those fizzy drinks. I mean it is history, right?

6. National Absurdity Day, Nov. 20

National Absurdity Day is the day of craziness. Now don’t do anything dumb, illegal or dangerous. It is a day that celebrates such antics, but this doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want. Enjoy National Absurdity Day by letting your inner weird out, but keep in mind that not everyone is aware of the day and might just think you’re strange.

7. National Tie One On Day, Nov. 25

This day is about putting on an apron and baking something. With Thanksgiving Day one may think this perfect for baking deserts. The twist on this day is it is about giving your final product to someone in need on Thanksgiving Eve. Attach a letter of encouragement to the apron, wrap the baked good in the apron and hand the delicious treat off.

8. National Flossing Day, Nov. 27

As worried as I am about the fact that there is a day pertaining to hygiene, I am hoping it is for good reason. What better time to start a good habit than the day after Thanksgiving? Beginning in 2000 by the National Flossing Council, Flossing Day is a day that should continue past its annual celebration.

9. Small Business Day, Nov. 28

The Saturday following Thanksgiving is always Small Business Saturday. Founded in 2010 by American Express, this day encourages consumers to help support small businesses. This is the perfect time to visit local places. This day has resulted in a larger movement as more and more people get involved each year.

10. Stay at Home Because You’re Well Day, Nov. 30

I promise I am not making this up. This doesn’t mean your boss will be okay with you celebrating it. If you have the chance to stay at home on this day, then why not be a part of it? Enjoy a day at home and soak in that last day of November.
