During the week in which Cristiano Ronaldo breaks the all time goal record for team Real Madrid in Spain, a rumor is started about him possibly being put on the trading block. So far, it looks like the rumors could be true. President of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, has said in the past that he loves the way Gareth Bale, a forward for Real Madrid, plays and he thinks that trading Ronaldo might boost Bale’s playing abilities and opportunities.
Fédération Internationale de Football Association, or FIFA, was found guilty on corruption charges and for taking bribes on who should host the World Cup by the FBI earlier this summer. At the time, the company’s president, Sepp Blatter, was still in charge of the organization. However, with the help of some key sponsors, Blatter is no long the president of FIFA. He was supposed to leave in February 2016, but he is now suspended for 90 days with an expansion to his suspension likely to come.

“No 2008, No 2008” was shouted from Detroit Lions fans this past Sunday, Oct.18. Fans were referring to the Lions’ 0-16 season back in 2008. When the Lions started 0-5 this season, fans were getting very nervous, but the team came out on top Sunday with a 37-34 victory in overtime against the Chicago Bears.
The playoffs are still going on in the NASCAR scene and it’s getting more and more intense as the weeks go on. Joey Logano is currently leading the playoffs in the third stage by 18 points over Denny Hamlin. Logano has won the past two weeks, but it’s the latest win that has everyone in an uproar. Logano, with five laps to go, wrecked Matt Kenseth to take the lead in the race. Kenseth was not pleased after the race, nor were most of the racers for what happened. The last race of the second round is coming up this Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2:30 p.m. at Talladega and airing on NBC Sports Network.

The East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) is the minor league of hockey and offers some of the most exciting hockey games to watch live. The local ECHL team is the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, formerly known as the Greenville Road Warriors. Their season will kick off on Friday, Oct. 23 with a home game against the South Carolina Stingrays, their in-state rivals.
When the news came out late Monday, Oct. 12 that Steve Spurrier was retiring effective immediately, waves of disbelief swept over Gamecock fans. Spurrier is being replaced by Shawn Elliot, the former offensive line coach of the Carolina Gamecocks. The Gamecocks, with Elliot as their coach, took the field against Vanderbilt Saturday, Oct. 17 and won the game 19-10. The game ball would go to the man you expected it to go to, the new ball coach for the Gamecocks, Shawn Elliot.

Ashton Heard ,running back for the NGU Crusaders, had one tough game against Tusculum College this past Saturday, Oct. 17 in front of a homecoming crowd in Tigerville, S.C. Heard rushed over 300 yards in a dominating win over Tusculum, 35-24. Heard broke a school record for the most yards rushed in a single game. The Crusaders are 5-2 in their season, the best the team has done in a 7game span since 2013.
The NGU basketball teams are getting ready for their season to begin with some exhibition games coming up within the month of October. The men’s basketball team will begin their season against Furman on Oct. 30. They had an incredible season last year, winning the Conference Carolina Championship and going to the Division 2 NCAA Basketball Tournament and have high hopes for this season too. The women’s basketball team look to rebound after a tough season last year as they start their season on Nov. 13 against the University of North Georgia.
