Get your slacklining and wall climbing on

Jonah Crenshaw, Staff Writer

If you’re looking to expand your horizon past the four walls of a dorm or wanting to try something new, look no further.

With COAR (Crusader Outdoor Adventure and Recreation, there are multiple opportunities to get out and explore new activities, such as slacklining and the climbing tower. Both are conveniently located at North Greenville University and are free of charge.

Although slacklining is not in direct correlation with COAR, many COAR members are involved in the activity.

Slacklining is often times located at the center of campus. Slacklining club president Andrew Hill said, “Slacklining is a sport that was started by a climber in 1976. It is webbing that is attached between two trees for the purpose of walking and doing tricks.”

Hill added, “The benefits of slacklining include improved ankle strength, core strength and most importantly, it’s fun.”

Slackining, however, isn’t the only outdoor activity on campus. Run by COAR, the climbing wall is located behind Foster Circle.

COAR member Tilly Schoonhoven said, “The climbing wall is a fun way to get outside and get a workout in and it’s right on campus.”

The tower is not always available to be climbed. The climbing tower is open from 3-5 p.m. every Thursday as long as the weather permits.

COAR offers multiple trips and activities throughout the school year. If you are interested in becoming involved, contact chair of Outdoor Leadership, Trey Fouché
