Nostalgic video game review: “Spyro the Dragon”

On September 10, 1998, Spyro the Dragon soared onto the market and has delighted numerous video game fans of all ages for nearly 17 years. Created by Insomniac Games, it has spawned several sequels, spinoffs and even a series reboot starring Elijah Wood.
Spyro the Dragon was the second game created by Insomniac Games and the studios first major hit. The games story revolves around a young purple dragon named Spyro and his trusty, yellow dragonfly friend named Sparx. The two must bravely overcome a perilous journey to defeat the infamous magician Gnasty Gnorc in order to save the World of Dragons.
This adventure contains many playable levels, each with many obstacles. It is filled with soft and intense moments at times, but dont let that intimidate you. Along the way, Spyro and Sparx meet many of the dragon elders who give the two heroes valuable information to help them overcome their adventure.
The game displays outstanding graphics, computer animation, artwork, and fantastic overall detail. There are a couple of glitches in the game, but most games of the 90s had them anyway. It seemed to be way ahead of its time.
Of course, a video game is only as good as its soundtrack. Written and performed by Stewart Copeland, former drummer of the multi-platinum rock band The Police, the music really brings this fantasy adventure to life.
Spyro the Dragon is a must play for anyone who owns a PlayStation, particularly those who are into platform games. Despite how old the game is, it is still one of the best.
