The North Greenville School of Theatre is working on a new production called “The Quilters,” an all female musical about the frontier life of a mother and her six daughters.

Kaylee Thompson, chosen to play one of the six daughters in “The Quilters,” said this is her first musical and she is very excited about the opportunity she has been given.

“I think it’s great that some of the girls in the theatre department are getting a chance to be in a play by themselves because most of our plays in the past have had mainly male roles.”

She said that Directo Dale Savidge made a great decision in choosing The Quilters” to be the one musical of the year because it will showcase some talented females in the North Greenville Theatre Department.

Beth Norris, who plays another one of the six daughters, said the musical has been around for a long time and has a not-so-mainstream storyline.

Norris added that Amy Dunlap will play the role of the mom, Sarah. This will be her third time playing the role, but her first at North Greenville

“These women are creating a quilt. And each patch is a story told through song. At the end of the play, we are looking at the finished product of their lives.”

The seven female parts have been filled, but the roles are unnamed, except for Dunlap’s. Norris says that the parts of the daughters will be decided once voice rehearsals start. The daughter’s change parts during the play and it will be important to match up each girl’s voice according to their part, said Norris.

Productions for the department’s previous play, “Kairos,” are still in the works with opening night beginning next week. Rehearsals for “The Quilters” are said to start after that by the end of September. The dates of the musical will be November 13-15 and 20-22, 2014. Tickets go on sale November 4, 2014.
